I bought a nice frag of of a chalice from my LFS. It looked fine when I first introduced it to my tank and then the next morning, it looked like some of its skeleton was showing. By night time that same day it was completely dead. Any clue on why this would happen? I've never had luck with chalices..

Did you put it in the shade when you introduced it? They like VERY low light. It may be bleached rather than dead - put it in the shade, give it time, and try to feed well.

same here. i would like to tag along and see what i can learn. my miami hurricane frags bleached their guts out in my tank.

My chalices never stay alive either, I do have one though that looks like it is getting some life back into it though around the edges. It would be nice to learn on how to keep these things alive

it doesn't look bleached. It looks dead. One of its mouths appears to still be 'alive' and has color. When I found it I thought maybe I bleached it so I did put it in the shade. The LFS had it directly under lighting. I believe he runs his radions at 70%. I run mine at 75%...

Is it possible that it was stung by sweeper tenticles from another coral? Chalices receding to nothing over night on it's own is rare IMO.

It wasn't stung. Unless ricordias can sting.. only corals around it were my ricordias. My system does have decently low nutrients because it is an SPS system. I believe there is enough nutrients in the water for LPS because a.) My ricordias are flourishing b.) I have an algae problem c.) I had (I said had because peppermint shrimp ate them) acans growing very well.

I know what a bleaching chalice looks like. I bleached.out the 2 I had in the past and put the surviving one in the shade and it started to take off. Then one day it looked unhappy and the rest was downhill. The chalice that most recently died, it's skeleton was first exposed in the middle, by one of its mouths. The rest of it looked happy and puffy.

i know that chalice likes low light and low flow. but i could swear that the lfs that i got my chalice from has the frags under one of the Taotronics look-alike LED fixtures and still thrived. i placed my miami hurricane under a liverock in a shaded area and still managed to bleached out.

Update on my chalice. It is starting to make a comeback. It is under nearly no light and is doing very well. I changed my lighting intensity and photoperiod so I think this has also helped. I thought my radions peaked at 75% but have had problems bleaching SPS so I decided to change my lighting. Turns out, the lights were peaking at 100%.
