change filter

In a couple weeks I might be changing my hang on filter for a bigger size one, and I was wondering how? It has a sponge filter a carbon and a bio filter. I would be changing it from the aquaclear 20 to the 30, but I think that means the sponges and everything would be different sizes? What do I do??
