I'm planning an upgrade from a 48x24x16 to a 60x24x24. Currently I'm using only 3 AI prime HDs, which I think I get away with because of the shallow depth and mostly LPS/zoanthid coral. But I want some more power to get more SPS after the upgrade.

Selling the primes and getting a 50" photon is relatively budget-friendly, but I haven't seen one in person.

Anyone have some insight on how the look and control compares between them?

Just my two cents. I would buy two more AI PRIMES and add aquatic life t5 hybrid. Not as budget friendly but you would get better coverage and more PAR

Or you could just get an aquatic life with the xl rails and use it with your reef breeders and have way less cords to worry about and have something brand new

I have an ai prime 16hd and a reefbreeders v2+ 60 (50"). For contollability ai all the way. But once your all set up I like the look of the Reefbreeder a bit better. Mine is on a 60x18x24 and is perfect but on your 60x24x24 I think you might get a bit dim in the front or back (depending on how you place it).

I've thought about it, and really I think I'd only need one more prime. But I've never been a fan of t5's, both for looks and bulb replacement cost

Thanks for the input. I don't have a problem with the primes now over 24", but I can also raise them up a couple extra inches because it's a shallow tank.
