Change in specific gravity due to evaporation.

There probably is but you’ll need a mathematician for that one, but you shouldn’t be getting a change anyway, you need an ATO system and that will stop any changes to salinity if that’s what you mean.

And Welcome to R2R!!!

Any change in specific gravity due to evap is very minimal unless you have a nano reef or something small.

hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun....
pics!!!..we all love pics.. :)

Have to replace manually because of system setup. Approximately 30 litres daily. Would like to use a conductivity meter to automate but I don’t know if there is one sufficiently accurate and if it can be used to top up.

what size tank? tunze best ato imo

I actually used the salinity module of my Apex and an Airlift pump to refill my tank with RO water or Kalkwasser. Worked like a charm.
I still had to manually add saltwater that got lost via the skimmer, but the tank salinity was always spot on.

This is the Apex code:
Code:
Fallback OFF
Set OFF
If Condx3 > 34.4 Then ON
If Condx3 < 34.4 Then OFF
Defer 005:00 Then ON
Defer 000:30 Then OFF

here is a calculator. I input 378.5 liter tank (100g) starting at 35ppt and evaporated 30 liters which rose salinity to 38ppt

1000 litres. Tank level is constant but sump level can vary due to reasons other than evaporation ( such as detritis build up in filter that the water passes through).

Thanks Dr Phil and others for the useful info.

You are welcome! Like others who have posted I highly recommend and auto top off system. They make life much more enjoyable. Haha I don't think I would try to control it with a conductivity probe. Just use float switches or optical sensors and it will be much more reliable.

Thanks but as mentioned above my system is not conducive to water level sensors.
