Change to a refugium

I have a few questions if someone would be so kind to answer. Please see picture below. I want to remove those and make that space into a refugium.

1. How long should I take to remove them? 1 week? 1 month? All at once?
2. Any major issues removing them?
3. Should I expect a spike in nitrate?

How big is the display tank?

The DT is 240 gallon. 72"L x 24"W x 30"D. I think total volume is 280+/- a few gallons.

If you followed the general of 1lb per gal you should be fine to remove the rubble in your Sump then. You might see a small spike, but I don’t think it would be much to worry about. I would just remove them all at once. Have you thought about a light for the fuge yet?

okay thanks. I have a cheap light that will work, got it from lazada, similar to amazon. Here in Philippines they use the cheapest they can get to grow it.
