Changed DI resin and TDS went up

I have a 4 stage RODI that I added an extra DI cartridge to. I use the BRS mixed resin in both. My second DI cartridge is actually the smaller one from my old RODI buddie and the main one is larger. The main one color wise looked completely exhausted and the smaller one was starting to turn from blue to brown so I figured it would be a good time to change the main one (the small one is a pain to refill). Before doing this, TDS was still 0.

Changed the resin and ran a 5 gallon bucket (takes 1.5 hrs). TDS is 1. I didn’t discard the first gallon or so and figured that was why.This was yesterday morning. Just ran a small cup of water to see if it was good now and TDS is still 1.

Ideas? Not sure what else to do or if I should use the water I have at TDS of 1. My system is the Kleenwater system from Marine Depot and isn’t very old (3 or so months). I use a handheld meter.

sponge side is down on mine. I think it sez on the cap also.

Do you know what your TDS is tap water wise?

Oh yes, it’s currently (and typically) around 450 (well water). This spring with all the rain it went up to 1300! That’s when I had to add the second DI cartridge

try changing the carbon filter as well i had the same problem

If you're on well you're also probably going to be dealing with CO2 in the water. I only get like 60g per cartridge. If you aerate your water for a couple hours before you run through DI you'll save a ton of resin. Or invest in a vacuum membrane contactor degasser for like $700... But most people either deal with burning through resin or use a still tub with aeration

I’m fine burning through DI resin. I only run 4 or 5 gallons a week for a 32g tank. This batch lasted about 90 days.
