Changed RODI filters and TDS went up!

I have an RO Buddie plus DI unit. I’ve had it for years and it’s worked just fine. When my tds started to rise (12), I realized I had never changed my membrane, so I ordered a new one plus a sediment cartridge. The two carbon filters are relatively new so I didn’t change them out. Well, for some reason my TDS has got up instead of down. I had a leak in the new sediment cartridge so I put the old one back in until a replacement arrived. In the directions it says to run the unit without the membrane if you change the carbon cartridge, but I didn’t change that one. My TDS is 16. Right now I’m running 5g of RODI water that I’m going to throw out in hopes that whatever the problem is it will wash out. Has anyone had a problem like this before? It’s the first time I’ve changed the membrane but other than that all my other cartridge replacements have gone smoothly. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Sometime that happens will a new membrane. Of it doesn't drop after 5g then I would look a little closer at things. Like perhaps the membrane isnt totally sealing with the canister.

That would be pretty odd though, truth be told.

Are you flushing before checking for tds?

The first time I checked the tds right away before flushing. I know you need to run about 5g of rodi that you discard before using the water. I checked it a second time after doing this and it was still at 14-15. I did have a small leak in the sediment fitting that I fixed last night with Teflon tape. I’m going to keep an eye on it. The membrane canister is tightly sealed with the included wrench. Sounds like it might go down with time. Thanks for the help!!

You should have a flush valve. I flush mine until TDS reads 0, then flip the flush valve and start making water. While I flush, the TDS meter counts down from like 25 down to 0.. Try that and let us know..

I would change the carbon filter. Carbon filter does a ton of the work before it gets to the di cartridge. Changing the carbon more often will help keep di cartridge from being used up. Some of the tds in the water will crush the di media without a good pass through the carbon.

Ok. I have two. One regular and another especially for chloramines. My chlorine/chloramine levels are still at zero.

ok. I don’t even know what a flush valve is, lol. Should I flush it without the di resin attached?

Some kits have a flush valve and some don’t.. if you don’t have one, I recommend it.. I can post a pic tomorrow of what a flush value looks like. For now, run your unit until tds are zero, it just takes longer without a flush valve..
