Hey guys! Been meaning to get my build thread on here for awhile, just have been busy!

essentially the system is 200 gallons. Sump is in the basement. It’s been up for 4-5 months now and I started with a Rubbermaid sump and live rock from super old tanks.

I was getting insane phosphates and as a result I started eliminating sources. Narrowed itdown to the Rubbermaid sump and plastic brute containers. I was running chaeto, skimmer, with no filter socks etc.

sooo...I changed my sump and built a plywood sump with pond shield. The sump included 100 micron filter socks, my skimmer, and my chaeto just floating in there for now...

my phosphates were up to .76 with the Rubbermaid, as a small bandaid while I was building the sump, I used lanthanum chloride commercial grade to lower them. Over a handful of doses, I got them down to.23
Basically overnight without me feeding, they jumped to .32

so finally got the sump changed over. Was a long process but I did it.....now 2 days after the system is back up, I tested again and phosphates are at .08....

this is good news and bad news....I’m starting to see dynos now...which sucks. Lots of brownish algae and slime. I had these a while back in my qt and it took 6 months to beat them.

I dosed phyto Once last night to try and feed pods and corals.

thoughts on what I should do here??

thinking about feeding heavy to get phosphates up slightly, then dosing a bacteria like vibrant or micro bacter to start out competing.

parameters

kh 7
Calcium 450
Mag 1450
Nitrates 10
Phosphate .08 Hanna checker
sg 1.026

No doubt the stock tank was the source, but I’m thinking they dropped to quickly. I’m gonna syphon them out tonight and see what happens. It’s just the start so there isn’t many of them. But I hate these things, and I’m going out of town here shortly.

thanks y’all! Tank build soon

I guess my question is....does the phosphate drop make any sense? Or do you guys thinks dynos are using up the phosphate now that the source is more limited? Thanks!

How do you know the PO4 isn’t Leaching from the rocks?

Thanks for reply! Well all love rock is upstairs in the tank. Phosphate was lower upstairs than it was in the Rubbermaid sump and skimmer container.

I suppose you can’t say it definitively, however, since removal of the sump and skimmer container etc, phosphate levels have dropped and arnt rising.
