Changing color of tank trim

Ok i bought a 120 Gallon tank from somebody but the stand is wood and the tank trim is brown . I'm going to be painting the stand black, but because the stand trim is a shiny, smooth seemingly unpaintable material are there any methods used to turn the brown trim to black besides painting?

Painting is really your only option. Not sure how the surface is unpaintable but some sand paper and elbow grease and decent quality paint you should be good to go.

Easy peasy. Tape off the area/areas you intend to paint and spray it with your favorite color. I suggest Krylon "Fusion" as it doesn't require sanding prior to painting.
