My question is in each media container there is 3 spaces for filters. Currently a carbon mesh sponge on top, bio rings in the middle, and granulated carbon on the bottom. Can I take out the bio rings and put in some sort of GFO, instead. Thoughts anyone? Pro's and cons....

Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) is popular among reef hobbyists as a means to decrease phosphate levels and subsequently algal growth in their tanks. GFO, however, can also affect other ions and compound levels as well. In my opinion it should be fine just make sure that you watch the magnesium, sulfate, calcium, and your strontium ion levels!
