Changing filters on RO/DI system

Thought I was prepared but after reading instructions I see that I need "food grade silicone grease" on the O ring. Can someone tell me what that is and where I can purchase please.
 
I think you can get by without it in a pinch. :) I've never used any...I suspect it just makes the canisters easier to open/close and the seals last longer. My unit is pretty old, and the seals seem to be holding up so far.

I'd also like to know where people generally get the silicone you mentioned though....I've never even seen it in a store.

Thank you. Did find a tube on Amazon but not sure I will order. May just take a chance and get it done.
 
I've never used anything on the O-ring either. I do believe that food grade silicone grease is available at restaurant supply stores.
 
Bulkreefsupply.com has it, but I haven't ever used it either. When I was looking up how to sanitize my unit, saw some suggestions that vegetable oil could be used but I didn't want to mess with it so can't tell you how good an idea that is...
