hi,
I live in Australia and we can only get cupramine here, I have managed to get some Copper Power posted to me. I am currently nearly 2 weeks into cupramine at therapeutic level .4 ppm. I have a Gem tang who does not like going up to .5 ppm. As the coppersafe is about to arrive, I was going set up another QT at full therapeutic level of Copper Power. Then transfer the tang to this tank for a day or so then empty the QT tank he is in now with the Cupramine and refill it dosed with Copper Power.

My question is, Is this ok to do? I’m not sure if there would be any effects to the fish changing mid stream. If there is potential risk then I’d rather just go another two weeks in the Cupramine at .4ppm.

Thanks

The therapeutic dose for cupramine is 0.5.

I would switch if the fish isn’t tolerating 0.5 but your clock maybe reset so do full 2 weeks at ~1.75ppm in copper power then can move the fish to another tank and observe for another 2 weeks without copper if you don’t want to go for the full 30 day treatment.

Ok, thanks for your advice. I thought therapeutic was from 0.2 upwards to 0.5? With 0.5 being the recommended top end.
So, no issues going between different types of copper? Have you actually switched between the two yourself?

TIA

IME 0.5 has been the therapeutic dose I guess the range could be in the 0.4-0.5, I don’t know the efficacy of lower doses. This would also assume very accurate testing and even with the Hanna checker that may be difficult given the accuracy range of our test kits.

I’ve never transferred from ionic to chelated copper but unless you mix in both at the same time and cause an overdose I can’t think of any issues.

Thankyou for your help and advice, much appreciated.
