Changing out old sump for new sump question

Hello,

I had a DIY sump I built that I wasn't too fond of, so I ended up redoing it. My question is, is it safe to remove all the water in the current sump into the new sump and then transfer the sand etc, hook it up and start running it? Or is there something else I need to do to make the transition from my old sump to my new sump. They are the same volume of water.

You should be alright, just make sure to not let the sand dry out.

When I changed my sump out I mixed up 30 Gallons of fresh mix (= 30% total net water volume) and used it to incorporate a water change into the process and to make sure I had extra encase of any water level differences. Plus you may need to account for any stirred up detritus in your old sump water you don't want going into tank.

If you used silicone, just make sure it's completely cured before switching over.

I wouldbjust use fresh salt water and use this as a nice sized water change. It won't hurt anything by doing this.

I am going to let it cure for another 24 hours (48 hours total).

Okay awesome! I'll do a sump water change. I did just do a water change on Tuesday, but it should be okay to do another tomorrow I would think. Thanks for all the awesome input!

How deep is the sand in the sump you are moving? You could have issues if it is a deep sand bed!
