Looking to change from regular IO salt to Red Sea Blue bucket. Ca and Mg levels of the Red Sea are right where I keep my tank and Alk is where I want to be vs IO being at 11 dkh.
So my question is how will the change effect my corals?
I know a big jump in ALK can be detrimental to SPS what are the effects on lowering it from 11Dkh down to 9Dkh ?
Before I make the change do I slowly reduce my 2 part dosing to lower it?

I switched in the opposite direction, I went from the blue bucket to regular IO. Unless you are going to do a 100% water change, the difference in alk will be very little and only over time will it match a fresh batch of blue bucket.

What made you switch away from Red Sea?

I noticed when my alk was closer to 10, coraline algae grew better and stony coral also grew better. I switched to IO because of the higher alk and lets be honest, it's cheap lol.

I’m the opposite I can’t keep my ALK below 11.19DKH. Maybe I should turn off my Alk dosing for a few days to let it drop and then turn it back on. I’m dosing 48 ML over 24 hours right now and it is stable. Maybe it’s best to let it drop and recalculate my maintenance dose volume.

What ever your desired alk number is, try to find a salt mix that matches it. That way, your not constantly fiddling with your daily maintenance dosage. I switched to IO so that I would have to bump up the numbers in a freshly mixed batch of blue bucket.

6 years never done a water change and other then possibly changing salt mix have no plans on doing maintenance water changes. Just want my Alk lower. Looks like it might be best to turn channel 2 off on my doser for a few days testing daily to let it fall by usage and slowly turn it back on finding the new volume that keeps it at 9 to 10 dkh. Thank for your help.
