I want to change my sand to a larger grain, currently using the oolite sand. Should i change it out slowly like a cup a day or just do the lot. Im going to be moving my tank in a few days onto a new stand

Since you’re going to have to empty the tank to move it on the new stand, I would do it then and remove all of the old and add in the new rinsed sand upon set up on the new stand.

This shouldn't affect my biological filtration, tank has been up a year and a half, lots of live rock

In one of brs videos of the 160 they said they pulled all the sand out at once and it caused all kinds of issues ( fish die off, aptasia) it was a mess I would do small sections at a time and let the bio filter re-establish

They actually were pulling it out only a cup per day to achieve a bare bottom. But it did create a lot of problems for them.

My fault but now think of what might happen if you pulled all the established sand out and put fresh in? I would change little by little....at least you know the video I was talking about lol

I’m doing it in my 180. Every water change I siphon as much as I can get at that time in 30g water changes every 2 weeks or so.

Zero issues but it’s a slowwwww process for sure.

Just cos BRS had issues doesn’t mean a thing. Hundred if not thousands of people have converted to bb with out issues.
