Should be all good to change or clean the sponge.

I'd clean it anyways to get the detritus out to help out your nitrates.

You've got good bacteria within your live rock and sand.

I think most baffle sponges are either noise reduction, macro algae catch, or for micro bubbles. At least why i installed mine.

Thanks guys
Out it goes , come April it would of been in the tank 2 years lol .......cleaned obviouslyo_O lol

Honestly most people don't even use them at all. They're just a nutrient sink which some don't like, some do.

Either way, my basic go-to advice for this is throw it away. Or at LEAST clean it out every 2-3 weeks. If you want bacteria to stay, clean it out the salt water you remove with a water change.

I've had one in my sump for the past 6 months, but clean it out with my garden hose once a month.
This last time I just took it out & nothing bad happened at all. The first 2 weeks I had microbubbles from the skimmer, which is why I put it in - but now the bubbles are minimal enough that I don't mind them in the DT

1 less item to clean!

I use to clean it with the old tank water but since switching to Triton I don't do so many water changes, tonight was the first for over 3 months because I'v just finished treating the tank with panacur dog wormer to kill pulsating, blue clove polyp, Greenstar ........
All nearly gone :D
Thanks for the advice Rakie
