I have a 40 gallon cube tank and want to change out my substrate. I currently have crushed coral and want to switch to a coarse sand. I have a few fish, snails, hermits, and some coral. What is the best way to do this? I have read to do it slowly over the course of several weeks, but I really don’t want to do that. Would it be ok to siphon the water into buckets, put my rock, fish and coral in the buckets, change out all substrate, then add the water and everything back in? The current substrate is pretty dirty and I haven’t been able to keep it clean lately

That’s a fine way to do it yes.
I just pulled out a deep sand bed that way.
