I have a self induced problem. I set up a 12 gallon Marineland Acrlyic bow front reef tank several years ago. I used a pad I brought for a glass tank accidentally on it, scratched it and it is close to impossible to clean algae from it. I would like to change tanks but have no idea how to. I have a 6 inch DSB, 2 large pieces of live rock, a couple of fish, and a few corals. There is an in-tank skimmer, 2 powerheads, and a heater. I would appreciate your thoughts

Are you going to get a bigger tank?
and do you want to keep the dsb?

I would like to maybe consider a biocube type tank. I like the DSB but mine is probably at or near end of life.
K, the dsb convo could be debated, if you were going into a much larger tank. BUT, not using it is easier.

have lots of containers,
Drain the tank down to the near the bottom, grab the fish, put them in container with live rock and flow, add sand to new tank, fill with old tank water add rock and fish. add live rock top off with fresh mixed seawater.
it called a skip cycle. the live rock is already Live and the old water contains bacteria too.

If you keep as much detritus and funkier water out of the new tank you'll be fine.
I did it here.https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/my-cherry-30-cube-saltyfilmfolks.248152/
I would add carbon a little GFO at first and a good bottled bacteria just for good measure.

Thank you! I appreciate it! I will start tank shopping. I liked the bow front but no longer produced. Had a disastrous tank failure with a 125 gallon tank when cleaning so am real leery of scrubbing hard.
