Hello everyone I live in a small town in upstate New York and I am a volunteer member of the local fire dpt and we talking about starting a fund raiser to acquire a reef tank for our station we have a lot of kids of come to the station for after school programs and members of the community who come as well. Now I know lots of company's will give out donations for projects like this one and I was wondering how I would go about doing this as this is the first project I have ever worked on like this any help is greatly appreciated and and I look forward to talking to anyone who can help

Ask the other volunteers in one word what or why the want a tank. You need to be able to express a connection to the donors as to why you want one. Besides its neat.
Arrange an event. Theme it. Once you have a an answer to to the above youll easily have a theme.
Make food, The food should be in line with the theme. If the theme is something really vague like healing. nature. compassion etc. Just have really good comfort food common in your community. BBQ, Fish taco, Sausage, Elk etc.
Talk to the local fish stores. Ask if they can bring fish(promotion from them) and you should buy from them.
Not sure where in NY you are but there are some heavy hitters in the firedept and reefing. find them. Agin notables should fall somewhere in line with the theme.
Contact the adim here on reef2reef and ask if is ok to post your event 4 to six weeks out(to gain supporters. and again 2 weeks out( to get people to come) in a new thread.
If the theme has merit (learning conservation etc) contact the local community members and schools of your kids.
Have a budget!!!!!!!!!!! AND a PLAN!!! Know what you want how much it costs and when you will do it. A follow up unveiling event (FREE this time) is a good idea to spend overage money on.
I'll repeat now. You need to be able to express a connection of a tank, to the donors as to why you want one. Besides its neat.

Good luck
