Chasing color with SPS

They do perform similarly in the par and spread area. Ati having the edge in spectrum, reef brite having the edge in heat addition. But...for all the great things about the reef brite...it does cost around $700 more for a 5x48” array XHO vs an 8x54 watt ati sunpower with bulbs. brings value into question. If performance is largely a wash, I’d tend to lean toward the less expensive option

But...at $29 per tube x 8 tubes changed every 9 months, it isnt long before the LED is cheaper?

For the distribution and PAR alone it works.
"Substitution" is relative when we isolate the qualities. Generally speaking is a good option in the name of "new technology" and preferences.
In the terms the video presents I would guess ReefBrite strips are the best today.
All the light options ReefBrite has today are great options for the public.
BRS has their plans with those videos.

Yes, I think it would be. Unless the reefer changes mind about that in a short period of time.

Tubes purchased on sale can be had for $20 a piece, and don’t need changing at 9 months. You can go clear up to 18-24 months at only 20% par loss. Spectral shift is negligible. The whole 6-9 month replacement schedule is and old school philosophy that should be put to bed

For what and the way is presented in the video (within it's fine limits for the public), and how it was performed, besides the motivation they have behind that, it is what it is. There is no way to have T5s substituted by LEDs. Even Tullio knows that! Market is doing it's job throw videos (people don't read anymore!). They have to have videos showing how great every single product they sell is, so the word spreads the "good news". Even if they can isolate the qualities to what the public think they know or/and what they need to hear. There is time to buy what the new video shows, and that is now. Maybe tomorrow they will show how metal halides are still the king of lights if another amazing fixture is on the market with so many people going back to them.

The spectrum actually changes and with that some changes occur in the system. 12 months is what I follow. PAR isn't everything like is normally published. Independent of any type of economical subject the T5s just don't have the same technology and results of any type of LED system. To compare them isn't fair a all. people need to wake up. That's what I don't like about the LED propaganda! BUT, yeah, if they like LEDs, like I've said, ReefBrite has a great option.
People should buy now before it's gone. LOL! The new video said...

Actually its buy now before the next version comes out, lol.

Thing you don't actually take into account is big halides are but ugly...:)

Anyways old "propaganda" video everyone should watch..

Something for everyone..

Tullio has mentioned--

-changing bulbs allows you to maintain spectrum and intensity levels

-Leds will have spectral shift over time. No one has fully documented this over aquariums......... Five years was his estimation for replacing LEDs.

Here's the interview it's very good......watch it!

I just added a Reef Brite XHO actinic blue to supplement my MH and it made a tremendous difference. The red in my PC Rainbow looked brownish red. With the XHO the red is red. The most notable difference are zoas. They glow. My pink Goni is electrified. Everything looks 10 times more colorful and all I did was add supplemental lighting.

My first light was a Hamilton fixture that was 2 x 250 MH HQI & two VHOs. The reflector for the MH wasn’t great, but those VHOs! These XHOs remind me of those bulbs.

If you’re not happy with the color of your corals it may be as simple as the spectrum you are used to.

I am so happy that I added the Reef Brite XHO actinic blue. Everything pops now. My tank went from a 6 to a 9. Colors are tremendous compared to MH alone.

The color and fluorescence is great, but LEDs look much different than VHOs. It’s most noticeable when you take a picture. LED light is not favorable to cell phone cameras. Even the fish fluoresce.

But to the naked eye it is awesome. The blue in my old V1 Reef Breeders light is nice on my nano, but it doesn’t pop like the Reef Brite.

In my experience, the homewrecker colors up in high flow, high light and at least 2 months of perfect stability. Meaning especially, nutrients, KH and not changing any settings on the lights. The mother colony in my setup is under 450 PAR and the colors are looking stunning, even under white light. Still more pigment developing. It's the best thing about the Homewrecker and most tenuis. They just get better and better (like many SPS) as your system stabilizes, especially when viewed from above.

Looking forward to seeing how that frag does, especially with the new Reef Brite XHO's. Post some pics.
