Chasing Numbers and confused...

Yes. I've been dosing 35mL/day.

Something is going on then, if you're not seeing a rise in dkh dosing 35ml per day. I would be very surprised if your tank is consuming 1 dkh every day with that few corals. Even with a lot of coraline algae, that seems like a lot. Hopefully @Randy Holmes-Farley can help! You dosed 35ml for 3 days in a row and the alk remained the same, may be test kit error is all I can think of?

I would wait for the hanna checker and test, then use the calculator to determine dosage, then wait 30 mins or so and test again. Once you get it where you want it, then test in the morning and night to see how much your tank is consuming and adjust daily dosage accordingly.

At that tank volume, using brs 2 part and dosing 3.5ml per day you will only be dosing .1 dkh per day. (Roughly, I think). What salt are you using? Different salts, even same salts different batches, have different alkalinity dkh.

Thanks, Yes, that is correct. :)

That is why people need to know what amounts they are dosing (dKH or ppm per day), not volumes.

That dose (edit: if this is what he used) is so small as to be almost meaningless in any tank. Abiotic precipitation would certainly explain the values not rising, even in a dead tank.

Yes. I've been dosing 35mL/day.

35, not 3.5 mL per day?

Even so, 1 dKH per day is not unreasonable.

7 dKH is also reasonable, and I'd stick with dosing 1 dKH per day unless the alk drops below 7 dKH.

Assuming you measure just before you dose, the alk will hit 8 dKH after dosign then decline to 7 dKH before the next dose. That's fine in this tank. :)

Thank you so much Randy! Yes I meant 35mL not 3.5. One of these days, I'll buy you a really large beverage!

I had pretty much the same issue you are haveing. I have a 90 gal lightly stocked tank with about 37 gals in sump and refuge. I test with salifert kits. My alk was low, 6.3 dkh cal high 500+. My logic said turn off cal turn up alk. Alk still didnt come up cal still high. Read Randy Holmes Farley work and tried his advice to dose equal parts alj and cal. Started slow 12mls each per day and tested. Each day alk came up a little inccreased dose 12 mls each. Two week and now dosing 72 mls each alk at 8.3 cal 450. Read Randys work he's anexpert.
