Chasing or attacting???

Ok I know I know purple tangs are aggressive. I recently rescued a purple tang. See that thread. He has been in tank for a around 3 weeks and last few days I seen him chasing my malinarus wrasse. And noticed my wrasse isn't first to great me anymore. Kinda hangs back now. Today it looked like they where playing. The tang would chase it. Then the wrasse would sneak up behind it and tang would bolt. then tang would come chase it. Is this aggression or something else? I moved tang to a holding area in my sump. I had a purple tang a few years ago in a different tank and he was never aggressive. please help

Oh and the tank the tang came from had the same type of wrasse. But I know it was with two other tangs that where fighting With it allot.

Probably just establishing dominance. Rather than attacking.

When I feed they all seem fine. Even when I put nori in. The wrasse a tang both eat with out attacking each other just afraid of coming home to a dead wrasse. He was my first fish in this tank.

If one is not at the top corner of the tank and getting chased every time he moves down you should be ok . Tail flashing is normal for a while. Now if he's hitting him that's different.

No hitting. Seems like they are playing tag kinda.

Ok well now I feel bad. I pulled him out of tank for no reason. I'll put him back tomorrow. Don't want to stress him out any more tonight. A few years ago i had a blue tang that would kill anything that came into that tank. Got rid of it for a purple tang and he was awesome. So I hope this one can be good. I still need to get a diamond goby and I want another wrasse. I would have waited for tang but I wanted to get it out of its tank he was in because it was tiny and he was being beaten up

Purple tangs will want to assert their dominance, but once it's supremacy is recognized,will usually calm down. I would suggest utilizing a social acclimation box for introducing new fish. It will give the new fish a chance to get their bearings without getting chased.

Next fish I need to get is a diamond goby to help me with my sand. My blue tang killed one in my other tank. So I guess just put some sand in acclamation tank ?

So I put him back in Main tank before work this morning. Wife says he is behaving so far.

Ok so even after spending 45 min last night catching him and putting him in salutary last night. while putting nori in tank, he decided to come swimming straight for me. So I took a little peice off and he took it straight from my hand. Then continued to eat off the clip. So I guess he is not holding a grudge.
