well guys i was recently wondering when i went throught the salt addition i wasnt to impressed they had amazing stuff dont get me wrong but were are the reef exhibits there is so much potential ya know any other thoughts on this

I agree 100%. I was very disappointed in the reef section of the aquarium. Don't get me wrong the aquarium is awesome, but the reef section is a let down. :(

I didn't realize they even had a "reef section"??? Unless you count the plaster coral... Still had fun down there though...

its more of a reef fish section lol im trying to get a job doing maintnece down there my step dad knows a few people high up down there so maybe i can get some good ideas stirring in there head. what if local aquariums started growing corals from all around the world and selling it locally. another thought why no fish store around the aquarium if not inside lol

Yea the Saltwater Section could have been so much better.

Anyways I won't get into names or two much detail, but I've spoken with a couple people at the aquarium about it and it their view/opinion is that real reef/corals don't bring in business.

Honestly I can't say I disagree. Yea we would all love it, but almost every aquarium these days seem to be less and less of the real deal. Just walking around the aquarium with my wife also supports there comments, heck she'd rather watch the penquins then look at the fish or corals.

To them its all about what makes $$$.

You're right, most people want to see the fish more than the coral... I don't know how many people I've had over, and when they see the tanks, they think the coral is fake and never knew coral came in different forms besides SPS and were so bright... But I almost always get more comments on the clownfish than anything else...

Because it is against the zooalogical society guidlines. They are not allowed to make money off of the animals directly. We were discussing on another site the other day how other aquariums throw out trash cans of SPS clippings because of this.

that just doesnt seem right some how should we all be doing our best to preserve nature and widen our hobby?slash addiction and i agree many people comment my lion and my tang but they usually get around to asking what all is going on in there. and if there throwing all this stuff away i got a rubbermaid tub circulating that they can through them in lol and ill take anything free of charge lol

I know, I think its very odd myself. I think its more of a general guidline that covers all animals but with corals since they are similar to plants and renewable I think it should be different but its not. They do give some to other aquariums from my understanding but they just cant sell them.

I really think some big soft corals would attract a lot of attention in the aquarium. Lay peeps seem to be blown away not by sps but bubble coral, fox coral, frogspawn, hammer, etc. That stuff isn't nearly as demanding or expensive as many other corals. The Chatt Aquarium needs to step up. But like a few others have said, we've talked to the Aquarium, and most of the board members who have input in the exhibits disagree with us.
