Hi all I just have a 10 gallon tank. I am looking for a cheap but reliable light. Preferably LEDs. Keeping soft corals and some fish.

When you say cheap, what price point are you thinking?

I use the zet light 1201 for my 12 gallon nano and so far so good, but it's only been up and running for 3 months

You can get a kessil a80 tuna blue and it would work great they are around 80 to 120 I believe

Do you guys have a set time for your lights? As in do I have the light on in the day and off at night?

I second the Current USA Orbit Marine LED that Big G suggested. I have the 24"-36" version on my 20 gallon long. I plan to move it to a 40 gallon breeder over the winter. If needed I may add a second one on that setup.

The light has a built in ramp timer with preprogrammed schedules or you can customize your own.

I got mine on eBay for around $91 or $92. They say they are refurbished but I can see no signs of use and have never had a problem.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/282631303118

Good luck!

Yeah, I've also got the 24"-36" version on my 20 gallon coral QT. I like them. Easy to clean. Bright. 4 pre-programmed plans. Custom programming. Ramp up/down. Timer. Solid build. What's not to like?

Tank is 20 inches long by 10wide. It wouldn't fit.
Sorry about that. I'd maybe save up just a tad more a get a Kessil A80. It has a 24x24 spread and would be perfect for soft and low light LPS corals

Reef Breeders has a nano light for 74.99. It is the Nano Light Touch. Oh and it comes with a 2 year warranty.
Think I'm going with this light you suggested. Do you think it's necessary to have a timer on the light and do you need a glass cover for the tank?

I don't remember if it has a built in timer or not. You may want pick one up just in case. As for the glass top, I would not use one. Glass tops get condensate from evaporation and it will just block light trying to come through. Glass tops also slow gas exchange that saltwater aquariums need to keep up oxygen in the water in smaller tanks. You can order a diy screen top from Bulk Reef Supply. It is easy to put together and will keep all your fish in the tank.

Do you recommend having a timer on? As in have it set to be on during the day and off at night
