Fish only doesn't require any kind of special light. Any freshwater light will do. I'd just search petco or comparable for something cheap that fits your tank

The difficult thing is finding out what exactly you mean by Cheap and Solid. Does cheap mean less than $50, $100, $200? Does Solid mean it works consistently, it looks cool, or it has WiFi?

That said my go to for a basic fish only light is the Aquatic Life Reno LED strips. They are super affordable and look good in and on the tank. No control just plug them into a timer.

What size tank? Mostly length.
Beamswork lights are cheap and relatively solid.
Some reports of diode fade quicker than expected but not critical in fish only tanks.

"Reef centric" ones are a bit short in red but more of an ocean look.
The 5 row freshwater lights have more red and overall k temp in the 10000k.

Can add a cheap timer/ dimmer/ programmer (2 models)

Enjoying this unit here, found a refurbished set on eBay for 1/3 the price. Fully automated which I enjoy seeing the sunrise and sunset and if we wanted storms that day etc not to mention add on’s available such as power heads. https://current-usa.com/orbit-marine-ic-dual-led-pro-bt/ Par 100 at 22” is enough light for my need. They have cheaper units, less par.

Had an aqua top brand and it glitched out within 2 months from moister.
Current is water resistant ip65 rated and in my case is a need.

For fun . Old. This us the 3w models but " color" profile would be similar.
.5 w ones are weaker but more efficient

Ive even lit my fish only tank with clowns with a cheap desk light I found on amazon. It did grow a decent amount of algae but it was cheap and did work out

Not a FOWLR here, a reef but, I would still recommend a decent spectrum of light both for your viewing pleasure and believe it or not there are going to be a few organisms on that LR that will grow under light and feed some of your fish as they pick at the rock. I'd highly recommend the Fluval 3.0 Marine. Its a programmable, via a user friendly app, colour spectrums are quite varied and it packs a fair amount of punch for a small light bar at 54 watts 4 ft LED. I utilize it to supplement my T5's for shimmer...Around 200 bucks for a 4 foot. Would certainly do the job you require.

Thinking @Sleeping Giant would agree, he has same light and loves it for the price to my knowledge

Viparspectra. I have great coral growth.
They aren't doing coral, apparently its FOWLR. So Viper as nice as it is ,not needed. I guess they just need a good basic light. Although I would as previously mentioned recommend something with at least a little bit of par, to help growth on the rock, for fish to feed at.

Nicrew has a decent line up. I have 2 100w lights and they are cheaper than the big brands and you can still change the colors and support corals. The dude I bought them from had carpet nems but idk if he had another light or not…

Oh yes agreed then! Definitely can find a really cheep one if you don’t need it for coral. Has anyone ever used a light that you normally would use in a refugium on the top of your tank? No idea how it would work, just a cheep idea.

I have a Hygger on two different nanos. They are cheap and you can keep low/medium light corals with them.
