My son had a bubble algae problem, he has 2 HOB aqua clear filters I purchased the Santa Monica filtration green grabber screen off eBay for $10 . I set it up on the waterfall of the aqua clear . In a well it was turning green , so I ordered another screen for the second waterfall . Well all the bubble algae is gone , and it started to work too well . Nitrates 0 . We removed one of the screens , and now have nitrates at 10 phosphates at .2 . My son doesn’t dose and only has a few soft corals. He isn’t vigilant about water changes and general maintenance. I have to say his parameters other than the nitrates were terrific . The helps keep things stable . I took the spare screen and set it up on my tank on the gyre with 2 zip ties because I was starting to get a little bubble algae too and higher nitrates . It is already starting to get green . I will be keeping a close eye on parameters but this is an easy , cheap DIY algae scrubber and it works like a champ .
