CHEAP PAR meter

Can some compare PPFD Meter to another monitor while they are at it lol ?

I have Photone as well, but never vac sealed it and took any readings with water, just in air. Same thing with the PPFD Meter.

The use of this type of PAR meter is probably much worse than no par meter at all. Having a device like this delivering a number that is so inaccurate, it could easily make people push and adjust the limits without truly knowing the number.
I would say that they are all in the same boat for what people (think) they are using them for.

Measuring the aggregate power output of a spectrum, where certain parts of that spectrum are more important than others is misleading, at best. Moreover, comparing those numbers to other peoples is even more misleading (for numerous reasons).

So we feel important with this expensive “instrument” but really, for most people it is a pretty useless toy that makes them feel like they are doing something important, when in fact it doesn’t matter.

5 people all on 2,000 kcal diets, each with different ratios of fat, protein and carbohydrates will all fair differently with weight control, health, energy, etc. This is not even considering vitamins, types of fat or carbs, etc. Calories are generally a pretty useless metric unless everything else is counted to.

It was a joke, but on BRS you can do it with a restocking fee.
That is not theft, that is an organized rental ;)

You would be absolutely stunned at the number of people that feel purchase -> use -> return = no harm is acceptable. it is an outright form of fraud/theft, be it a prom dress, a table saw or a television for the big game.

Yes some have done it that way although I only went to the water surface in different positions.
I put my iPhone in a Food Saver vacuum bag and sealed it up tight with the paper wrapped around the front camera. It worked, but was a little awkward to move around inside the tank.

It was super cheap, I think I paid $6-$7 for the Blue/White LED module and got some PAR readings.

Cool, it's decent for a reference par point but yes if you want to get all spots and angles in the tank, the par wand works best.

I am honestly asking here...

Decent reference point for what exactly? What parts of the tank are brighter or dimmer?

The new "importance" this hobby places on PAR is baffling. Everyone tosses numbers around as if they mean something other than this part is a bit brighter than that part at this particular spectrum.

Two tanks measured with the same device and that show the same PPFD (say 500) may (likely do) have vastly different spectral outputs, where one is far better at growing coral (coloration, growth rate, whatever) than the other.

Measure same two tanks with two different meters... and the PPFD readings are not even the same (Say 470 and 500)... So what is 470 and what is 500? Two fixtures, two different spectrums, two different meters... the numbers are pretty useless for what people think they are using them for.

I have one of these it works really great and accurate... You can return it also within 30 days, if you no longer need it.

No... no you can't "return it in 30 days if you no longer need it"... It being from Amazon changes nothing. The return policy is not a "free rental" agreement.

THAT IS FRAUD

Honestly, having to explain to another adult in public that buying something with the intention of using it and returning it is both unethical and illegal leaves me dumbfounded. No the police are not going to knock in your door and arrest you and there is not much anybody can do... but for goodness sakes, practice basic level of moral and ethical behavior.

Trying to split hairs into "well I no longer need it" does not help.

I feel the same. I would like to see some tests at least and see how it performs.

It's not fraud if you no longer need it, it's a literal option on Amazon's return drop down menu . The fact that I have to explain this to another adult who can read, blows my mind...

Let me break down a basic sentence for you. As this site is about helping people who are ignorant, to even basic things like English. My statement was, "I have one of these. It works really great and it's accurate... You can return it also within 30 days, if you no longer need it.". I said "I have one of these,". Meaning; I STILL have it. I also said, "You can return it also within 30 days, if you no longer need it.". Meaning; if you find it was not up to your expectation, Amazon legally allows returns.

In contracts there's this thing called "consideration", a 30 day return is Amazon consideration for you choicing to give them money.... I didn't at any point say buy it with the intention of using it to return it. If you're gonna quote me atleast try to understand what I'm saying... Or take some reading comprehension classes, Youtube has many. My 5 year old nephew swears they're amazing. When he gets home from school I'll get you some recommendations. :)

Hi -

Return fraud - the act of "buying" an item with the intent of using it and returning it after use for a refund.

Two statements:
"You can return it also within 30 days, if you no longer need it"
"You can return it within 30 days if it does not meet your expectations"

The difference? Those two statements convey very different intent. If you do not communicate clearly, how do you expect people to comprehend what you mean?

Show me were I said buy it with the intention of using and returning, you can't... Reading comprehenion, it's a vital life skill. I'll get you those recommendations, when my nephew get home.

Every accustion is an admittance of guilt. Deal with your guilty conscience before projecting your baggage on others. :)
