Cheap ways to get coral?

What are some cheap ways that you guys get coral? What are some website? Stores near you?

Reefer retiring from the hobby is my go to for cheaper stuff.

From local reefers. Buy small. Sometimes you can find ones that are covered with algea and buy them cheap.

Ive found a group of zoa floating around the tank. Picked them up for a couple of bucks.


The best is to buy small or from a local reefer who may have to dump some because they need to fran and nobody to give them to.

Local reefers generally is the best. Otherwise, the largest frags I've gotten for the money was from Lazy's Coral House

Grow out what other local reefers want. Zoas as re PERFECT examples.

Then you Trade.

Depends on what you mean by "cheap". Other than from local reefers trimming their tanks, you can save a great deal of money not buying frags of named corals. Live Aquaria (specifically, Diver's Den for WYSIWYG) sells whole colonies for about the price of a single 1/2" named frag from other places.

The best deals I’ve found are in craigslist usually reefers getting out of the hobby or most of the time reefers looking to cut down on overgrowing

There is a thread right now all about people throwing out coral at times due to having to trim it and not having someone to give it to. I regularly see posts on a local forum about people with free frags available.
