I wanted to ask what the cheapest and hardiest Zoa is, I’m looking into getting a Zoa. But I don’t want to buy something expensive that is not good for beginners. Any ideas?

I really like Utter Chaos. They are nice looking and get nice big polyps, they grow fast, and are super hardy for me.

just buy one $10 a polyp and within a few months, you're rock will be covered.

Honestly they are all pretty easy outside of some of the more expensive ones, just pick the ones you like,…there are some that are pervasive growers/weeds that you might avoid like pandoras or Mohawks unless there the thing you need

Pandoras, Nirvanas and Mowhawks could probably grow in a toilet bowl. But don't let them touch anything you DON'T want them to grow on, because they will grow on everything.

Double edged sword here...

The cheapest ones also tend to be really fast growers with drab colors.

Most Zoas are pretty user friendly. I have never found one that was an issue as far as keeping it alive and thriving. As long as you have a good light and moderate flow and do your proper maintenance, ANY Zoa will do great.

For an awesome red color, I recommend the Red Tarantulas.

My lfs sells corals for super expensive any ways to get cheap Zoas? I think the cheapest Zoa I saw at my lfs was like 30$. Any online sites that are good?

My favorite is cherrycorals.com but they are mostly high end stuff. I have not had good luck with coral from Live Aquaria so I don't order from them any longer. $30 really isn't too bad for zoas depending on how many there were and what type. Ordering online you're going to pay a lot for shipping so doesn't make a lot of sense if you're looking for 'inexpensive'.

See if you have a local reef club (most regions of the U.S. do, I believe there are many in the UK too). Most local reefers will be happy to give you a cheap (or free) frag of something. Personally, I have several frags of Halle Berry zoas in my tank and I can't give them away. The LFS where I bought them back in October charged $10/head. I bought 3 heads and now they're covering a softball size rock and I have to regularly trim them back. The color is great though.

Zoanthids.com has fantastic healthy stock at reasonable prices. As with all live sales you find here, it is the shipping module that is pricy. Most will run you about $40. If you buy a few pieces, and maybe grab a freebie or a $5 piece, it makes up for the shipping costs.

Watch the forum for the live sales. There is one usually every weekend.

Go to the home page of the forum.

Directly below the R2R banner is a link to this weeks live sale. In this case it is Tidal Gardens.

20-30 dollar at an LFS for an average zoa frag is about run of the mill. You can find frags much cheaper alot of times online, but shipping in most cases will negate any savings you can find online versus in person. Always look on FB in reef groups and on here for other hobbyists selling.

Eagle Eyes/Whammin Watermelons are IMO very colorful and one of the cheapest. Very often you get other really nice color variations from a colony like Radioactive Dragon Eyes. I've even seen Green Bay Packers show up in a colony of Eagle Eyes.

I’ll look, it’s hard finding local reefers though.

Im assuming you are in fairfax Virginia? I guarantee theres at least an online group there. Greenville SC is no where near as big and has two of them. Just a group of people talking and discussing and trading and selling corals.

My frag of rastas survived being smothered by dinos, me dipping them in a heavy peroxide bath to attempt to kill the dinos, then again being smothered by dinos. Big fan of that frag for making it through.
