So very recently around the end of April my cheating has started to die I have had my tank up since August and have been growing cheating like crazy. I checked the nitrates in the tank they are well over 4 and I run a skimmer to get them down. But I’m wondering if it could be the aiptasia that is only in the sump they have started to take over the sump? I will be doing some maintenance this weekend but was wondering if they would be the culprit to the cheating dying here’s a picture any thing will help thanks!

Chaeto needs Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, phosphate and nitrates to grow. I run a uls and dose 2 ml daily of ESV B-Ionic Transition Elements and my Chaeto took off. I now grow a golfball clump into a basketball in under 2 weeks where as before it looked just like yours. Most will tell you that you have to have x y z light, well yes some are better then others but Chaeto will grow under just about any light if it has what it needs for nutrients. I run a Kessil H380 and it’s on 14 hours every evening. Before the kessil I used a cheapo off amazon and honestly the growth difference is very minimal in my opinion.
I’ve never heard of apistasia effecting any algae personally so I doubt that’s a issue for the Chaeto, I do recommend getting it out ASAP before it spreads into the display tank though.

Ok thanks Hitman I will try that and I was planing to take the aiptasia out of the sump and the Dt I have peppermint shrimp in there to deal with that had that problem a while ago

What is your potassium?

Look at the green hair algae growth in your skimmer. It seems like an issue with your lighting. What kind of light are you using? Is it too close to the chaeto? How long do you leave it on for? If conditions are better for gha, it will compete with your chaeto and grow all over and in it, and eventually choke off your chaeto's food supply.

Its been set up for almost a year now and the light is a zetlight e200 I got it because my father has one that is a lot closer to the cheato and his is growing like a weed. My light is about 6-7 inches from the cheato.
