So I have a couple issues with my chaeto at the moment, it seems to be extremely healthy, but doesn’t want to grow, I’m wondering if my refugium doesn’t have enough flow, at the moment I estimate about 50 gph a 20 gallon refugium. Please let me know what I should do

Are you using ChaetoGro? What’s your lighting schedule?

When I first started mine, it wasn’t growing (it was not doing well at all actually). I had it on the opposite schedule to my main lights. I started dosing ChartoGro and changed the lights to always-on and that fixed my issues. YMMV.

What are your parameters? May not be enough nitrate or phos or ammonia to grow. Never seemed to be an issue when I had a fuge, never added any chemicals for it.

I had to start using chaeto grow to get my chaeto going As well. Lights are still on a reverse 12 hour cycle.

So I want to do a reverse lighting schedule but my dad won’t let me, (I need to sleep) and my lights are the the Cheato maxx lights. And I am yet to test parameters. However if chaeto grow really works I’ll get some, however I am curious if I’m even getting enough flow in the fuge

You estimated flow at 50GPH. Is that what your pump is rated at? If you have the ability to increase it, you can give that a try.

I have a DC pump on my HOB and, when my Chaeto was not growing (actually looked like it was withering away) I tried varying flow. I read someone else on this site with a similar problem and tried Chaerogro.

it did the trick.

My refugium has low flow but it's growing slowly. Then I started dosing chaetogro 3 weeks ago and it's been growing fast, I turn the chaeto every few days. Fuge lights are on 18 hours a day. Chaetogro does make a difference in my fuge.
