Cheato over weir in sump

I just got the trigger 39 sump set up. I am having a problem with the cheato getting on the sponge between refugium and return chamber when pump is shut down for feeding. Does anyone else have this problem or am i doing something wrong?

Nope, I run into this issue as well. I just pull it off and throw it back in the fuge chamber

Yeah. The problem is if i dont catch it right away it drops the level in the return area and then the ato kicks on.

How much chaeto is making it's way to the sponge? How high does your water level get when you turn off the pump?

I'm thinking you have too much dain back when your return shuts off. How low in the water are your nozzles?

that's what I'm thinking as well

Nozzles are at the surface. I get about a 3 inch rise or so when pump shuts off. 180 gal display. Just started playing with the running level today and will see how it goes.

I noticed today that the cheato is clogging the weir while running and water starts flowing over the top instead of through the teeth. So i am in the process of dropping the water level in the sump a little to see if that helps. Thanks for the help btw.

I pulled the sponge out about a year ago. Some algae will make its way into the display but the yellow tang makes short work of it.

That's good. All of mine grab it then spit it out.lowering my water level helped some. I also cut a piece of egg crate and stuck it in the cheato section just resting on the divider at an angle so the cheato gets stuck on it
