I’ve been in the reef hobby for exactly two years as of today, but my first tank crashed and wasn’t able to recover, so I decided to redo it for today. It is now all up and running, finished the cycle stage, three fish in (two clownfish and a tailspot Blenny), filter is running with all the filtration I need, and I am going to be dosing the tank (idk what I’m going to dose with yet). I still have one open compartment in my sump though: the refugium. I am going to be putting Chaeto in it, hopefully growing it successfully (and using it to house copepods), but it is my first time with a refugium, so I am looking for some guidance. A couple of my main questions are: When should I add Chaeto? Will the copepods survive in a refugium with just Chaeto and light? What should I make sure to do when growing Chaeto? What should I look out for when growing Chaeto? Any other information is also greatly appreciated!

Awesome man. You don't need to dose anything until you have corals that uptake the elements in the water. Water changes will serve you will for a good while. Get some good test kits for the major 3 elements ALK,CA, MAG I use Salifert for all 3 and honestly its the best IMO. Copepods eat diatoms, phyto, rottifers, algae. I find Brightwell Chaetogro helps with keeping my chaeto green and healthy.
