I want to do a giant refugium with chaeto and maybe some other macro. What's a good intensity to start with lighting (par)?

Spectrum and photoperiod are more important than par for algae growth. Many people have cheap CFL lights and grow good cheato. You can also blast it with hundreds of par with Kessils h380 etc. the range is pretty wide.

I meant to acclimate it. I can blast it point blank range @200w for 12hrs or I can lower into the tank @200w for 8hrs etc etc. Just looking for a starting point. Similar to the way you acclimate an algae scrubber to get it going

I've never bothered acclimating cheato tbh. 12hrs is a good start, you can go up to 24, although there may not be as much benefit of doing that vs 18-20hrs.
