Just added a little cheato to the sump and thought I’d add a little to the veggie clip to see if tangs and foxface would eat it .

they won’t touch it …

next question . I’m struggling to keep nutrients detectable .
will the cheato rapidly reduce nutrients to zero ?

The primary purpose of Chaeto is to reduce nutrients. Adding it to a system where you are trying to get nutrients to a detectable level may not be to your advantage. Ime chaeto will not reduce nutrients quickly like an algae scrubber for instance, unless you are using ALOT of it. Not sure if any fish will readily eat chaeto.

A little chaeto will remove a little phosphate, nitrate, and iron, if given sufficient light. If you are out of any of the four basic requirements, the chaeto will die. Dead chaeto (white/grey, fine, limp) releases all the phosphate, nitrate and iron that it had consumed back into your tank. I have to dose iron for my chaeto to flourish.

I wouldn't add any macro-algae to my sump if my tank was nutrient-starved. My solution to lack of phosphate and nitrate is to add more fish and feed them. Fish poop is super coral food!

Thank you for the replies.
I might remove it as I don’t want nutrients any lower .
and seeing as fish are not eating it , doesn’t seam to have any benefits for my system
