They appear to be giant coolers, an inner & outer skin with an air space in between, which would make sense being outdoors.

Corey - I have a feeling it's a bit cold in Canada to do that, just saying..lol
must be nice to live somewhere you can have sumps and plumbing out side.
if we did that it would freeze 50% of the year.

Yup pretty much. Its been warm here lately at 0 C lol. My tanks in the basement lots of room.
