So, for about a week, I couldn’t figure out my alkalinity dosing. It kept dropping, so I kept upping my dosing schedule. It was all over the place and for the life of me I couldn’t figure it out.
Tonight, it dropped below 7, so I got under my tank and decided to run a manual dosing cycle. That’s when I noticed that my dosing pump wasn’t putting out any alk solution. I looked at the dosing head and saw dried alk solution (white powder) all around it. Uh oh!
I pulled the head off and replaced it with a spare I had. It immediately started working.
I inspected the old head and found a pinhole leak in the tubing inside the head. It’s been running for about a year at this point. The pinhole leak caused the alk solution to crust up the moving parts.
Automation is great, but make sure to check your gear. Especially if something doesn’t seem right.
