I went to go feed some flakes to the fishies this weekend using my Innovative Marine "Gourmet Desfroster" which I've had for around a year or so. At first everything seemed normal.

But when I went to separate the magnets to put it in the tank, I started to notice a problem...

Notice that bulge between the 2 magnets? So it turns out that at some point, the magnet that goes inside the tank had CRACKED and was now rusted like crazy. I normally leave the feeder in the tank for a day or 2 if I'm feeling a bit lazy and I don't remember seeing it like this last time I used it, but who knows. It could have been in the tank that way for a couple days. So lesson learned, CHECK YOUR MAGNETS OFTEN!!!

I've heard about this a lot with the gourmet defroster. Everybody I know with it says if you dont take it out after feeding it happens in a few weeks to months

The most I've ever left it in the tank for was a few days. I guess a few days multiplied by many uses = this mess. Learned my lesson and will definitely not be using another of these and probably avoiding IM products in general.

No type of feeding magnet should really be left in the tank for more than a half hour or that happens. They're meant to feed and then take out and rinse with freshwater.
