i've added a chelmon in my tank with an Atlantic Blue Tang. the tang is fighting the chelmon a lot, forcing me to put chelmon on a nursery.

even with a mirror, the tang is fighting both the mirror and the chelmon

any suggestion?

How big is the tank? How long has the tang been in there before the copperband?

I love / hate tangs. I have a cbb that I would love to move to my living room tank but I know one if the tangs would kill it. I ran a half black mimic tang through QT and placed it in the tank and my purple chased it into a cave and I never saw it again. The only tangs I have or have had that were mellow are my naso and vlamingi.

Had the same issue of a new cbb and an aggressive scopas. The attacks become less and less aggressive until they stop in about 2 weeks. Just make sure that the cbb gets to eat (mussels and blood worms worked for me)

The ABT comes on gangbusters, but I don’t know how much damage they actually do. I put a 2” ABT in with a 1 1/2” (2 weeks) established ABT in a 20H with a mated pair of 3” Ocellaris clowns. The bigger Tang chases him from time to time, but I have yet to see any damage on the smaller ABT. None. When first put together, the larger ABT was chasing him constantly. Now much less. In fact, the smaller ABT trolls him. It’s actually pretty funny. Someone else could speak to their experience, this is just mine. Good luck

I grate the frozen mussels and it needs everything in the tank or a chunk on a tlf clip. Getting a cbb to eat requires a lot of feedings that will affect NO3 and PO4. Distract the rang with nori while feeding helps too

After 4 days in the nursery, i've released the CBB but the tang still fighting It.

any idea?

removal is not possible, but i can try to put the tang in the nursery and release the copperband

I’d get rid of the tang altogether if I’m honest, he won’t get along with any new introductions and will most likely be the result of a death due to too much stress.

Don't you think it could calm down ?

With a CBB no, I’ve had a similar thing with a scopas tang which are around a similar aggression to the Atlantic blue if not calmer and he didn’t stop until the CBB was dead. The Atlantic blue will more than likely do the exact same thing.

I hope you are wrong :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
When I saw my damsel killing another damsel, it was fighitng it every day, following everywhere with no stop.

This one seems to be a little bit more pacific, it doesn't follow the CBB, it just defend it's territory (as big as the tank :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: ) but when the CBB is in the corner, the tangs goes away. Sometimes cames back just to see without biting and without dosing anything harmful , just to see what's happening.

So, I think there is a chance... when lights are off (only tank light, room light still on) , the tang stops immediatly to fight and just ignore the CBB

The tang thinks the whole tank is its territory. If you disrupt the rocks, it will get confused. This will help with aggression.
