Rowa Phos Questions

I have been trying to get my Phosphates down a little bit (started at .16) so about a month ago I added Rows Phos to my system, I put it in a reactor. It made a dent in the phosphates (down to .08) but it seemed to throw my PH and Magnesium all out of wack.
  • Has anyone encountered any water chemistry problem with Phosguard?
Chem Pure Elite Questions

I just switched out the Rowa Phose for Chem Pure Elite.
  • Is this stuff a phosphate reducer or a carbon... both? It sounds like both...
  • Should I expect some kind of Ph and Magnesium swing with this stuff also?
  • Should I run carbon with Chem Pure Elete?

ChemiPure Elite IS a carbon with GFO mixed in basically. It probably shouldn't be your primary means for phosphate removal.

Holey cow! The Chem pure elite really made my water Crystal clear over night!!! I am going to test my water and see what I got, I hope the ph and the Magnesium did not drop like it did with the Rowa phos.

Yeah, it works good. I put two of the smaller bags in my 220 (which is way less than I should use) and my water was crystal clear the next day. I've honestly never seen water so clear before with using ChemiPure.

Elite is my choice. Haven't had any issues since using it. Switched from Phosguard and Seachem carbon. Using 1 bag in my 125 and saving the 2 others I picked up for my 240.

Rowaphos is for removing and keeping Phosphates at nearly undetectable levels. Chemipure is just carbon with a small amount of GFO that won't make any noticeable dent.

Best would be to run two reactors. One with GFO and one with Carbon.

I have the new pro-flex sump I was wondering if I could just put the Rowaphos in a bag and throw it in the chamber before the retun pump where the blue sponge is.

That would probably get the most flow through it, however, getting a reactor, even a cheaper one like the Phosban, would be even better.

I just balance out the tank with algaes (macros in my case or some use an ATS).

But that's just me and

my .02

Seems like you have a big tank and i would also recommend getting a reactor or two for that purpose, chemipure would get used up quick unless you buy their huge gigantic bag but the cost of that you couldve gotten reactors...
