So if I run that in my sump do I still have to run carbon?

No it is carbon . look it up when you got a few . there are three chemi pure chemi pure elite and chemi blue there all amazing just depends if you want to run a carbon or want phosphate and organic control as well . I thought of running brs carbon but like convenience of pre portion pre bagged .

Ahh ok I see. I was reading on the chemi elite and did read tht it had carbon but wasnt sure if i should still be running both. But i will do some more reading on both to see which of the 3 might be better for my tank. Thanks

Ya it has carbon and ion resion . and the blue has phosphate remover in it like I said you can't go wrong with any of em there great a product

I also used elite and switched over to blue.. both are great products. I Always ran them instead of carbon.

Would I be able to put any of these chemicals in my canister filter? I currently have a bag of carbon and then fine and course filters. I heard filters cause a nitrate factory because the fine filters trap all the bacteria and it just sits in the filter and builds. If I was to put a bag of each of those three chemicals in my canister filter would this help with nitrate, phosphate, and water quality overall? My main issue is high nitrates that I cant get below 20ppm. Also just a little high on phosphate.

What skimmer do you use?
Also do you run a refugium

Also canisters are fine if you keep them clean

No skimmer or refugium at this point. My tank is sumpless and I have been looking at HOB skimmers and refugiums lately. Hopefully will have one or the other or both within the next few months. But we will see what santa brings me lol

Now i see.
Your DOC's are the problem source to the no3 and po4
May need a lot of media to keep those DOC's down

Help me out here lol I have only been doing this hobby for a year now. Can you explain that to me a little better? What are DOC's? What do you mean by media?

DOC's are dissolved organic compounds which break down into no3 and po4 over time.
This is where a high quality skimmer comes in. Pulls that out before it can break down.

Media is like saying "I use carbon"
(Which that is all I use)
There are so many types of media out there just have to find the ones that work with your canister.

What would you suggest for a high quality hob skimmer?

Would it be a good idea to pull all the filter material out of my canister and just have nothing but carbon in it?

Can you stick the Chemi pure bags in a media reactor? Or would I need to find somewhere else for them?
