I'm thinking about using the chemi pure elite. As of right now I'm using carbon and biomax. If I was to change, would I still have to use carbon and biomax as well? Or would those not be needed anymore?

I am interested in the answer as well. Back in the day, I used DB Chemi pure and also carbon based on the observed water color during water changes. Might want to consider the water clarifying capacity of carbon. I don't know how CP elite does to combat this. Following...

You can leave the biomax in. It helps create more surface area for bacteria, which in turn helps reduce nitrate. ChemiPure is mainly a carbon and gfo mix to help soak up excess nutrients, phosphate and help clarify the water.

Ok, As I was curious about this as I had used ChemiPure in the past, I did some digging. Turns out that ChemiPure works but the added ion resins are rendered all but mute within a saltwater aquarium. I used to use Seachem Purigen and it worked well for me along with the ChemiPure. Upon further research and evaluation, I believe, cost as a predominant factor, that ChemiPure is not warranted. I think that I will use a high-quality carbon, GFO, and Purigen and see how that all works out. The benefit of Purigen is it is able to be regenerated. There are things that have changed since leaving the hobby many years ago and things that have stayed the same and, more importantly, more evidence-based research on particular products. If all else fails, I can go back to using ChemiPure.
