So, first tank here, got it going for about a year now. Had its issues but ran pretty smooth for the most part.
Its a 40 gal breeder with a 20 gallon sump, total volume about 50gal. I have a skimmer that is oversized and i have been trying a refugium for the longest but to no avail. The chateo always dies and i never see any pod growth so i and dosing pods.
I have about 40 lbs of rock in the Dt and 10 in the refugium area with sand.
I use a 2 bulb t5 and have had great growth from all my easy corals.
I have a total of 7 fish in the tank that all get along.
I run the lights 5 hours a day now because i had a outbreak of gha and had to scrub the rocks clean.
I use a mag 5 return pump and a rw4 powerhead which im starting to think isnt enough.
So i did a big test today using my red sea test kits.
as follows

Calcium: 420-430ppm
Good

Mag:1280-1320ppm
Good

Alk: 12.3 dkh-13.4 dkh
BAd, too high. What causes this and how can i fix it?

Nitrate: showing 5-10 but i know its high than that cause i have GHA again.

Phos: .03-.1 Showing low but again i have a feeling its higher.

Salinity is 1.026 so thats ok
temp ranges from 76-78

ph is 7.6-8.0 which is too low????

I alrdy am done trying the chateo method so this weekend im grabbing 2 brs reactors, one for gfo and one for carbon to starve the gha out and keep it out.

what should i be doing right now to correct the parameters that are off?

i believe he uses instant ocean basic salt

Starting to think i need some real live rock since i have only used dry rock to this point.
