In my experience I think that any chemical product is a detriment to a reef tank. I know people say, I did this and that and did not lose any fish or corals. Maybe so, but how much did you stunt their growth. I have tried a few things over the years and every time without exception something suffered. Treat the cause and not the symptom. Example, I was fighting ha and used Vibrant, no results, but it did create cyano. Tried h2o2, might have helped a little but nothing spectacular. So I just keep pulling it and brushing it and it now seems to be in remission. I did not have a big ha issue but just a little on a few corals. What I noticed is that my growing corals stopped growing, lost coloration, but did not die. Now things are looking up, color is returning after several months and while there is still some ha, I will deal with it manually. Oh, and I am not even a fan of gfo, although I have used it.

Prime example, I had a green cyano problem in my tank. Come to find out the food I was feeding was vitamin C rich. Vitamin C is a carbon source and bacteria feeds on carbon. Switched foods and the problem is almost nonexistent
