Chemicals or Electronic pH tester more accurate?

So, I recently ordered a Hanna pH meter HI98103, and it came today, but I am very concerned. upon following the instructions and 1 point calibration with the included fluid, it is reading my tank at 7.7, which is super not good. I immediately tested with the API high range test kit according to the instructions and it is still reading a pH of 8. you could maybe skew the color to be 7.9, but definitely above 7.7. so the question is, Which reading do I trust?

Every two different brands test kit will read differently. Even 2 people do the same test with the same test kit will read different the results.
API said to be no so good test anyway so in this case I would trust the Hanna more if for nothing else but because it will do the same mistake.
As per 7.7 is on the lower end but it doesn’t matter much.
As little as opening your windows can sort it.

the problem is its really cold out now, would you think an air stone might help?

it did in mine. I have glass cover so air exchange wasn't really good. Mine gone up in 2 hours from 7.5 to 8 and remaining there ever since. Mind you I don't run a skimmer so in your case it might be different.
