Chemiclean after 48 hours question

It’s going to be 48 hours in a few hours but there’s still quite a bit of cyano. Is it mandatory to do the water change at 48 or am I able to leave it for another day to treat?

Any experiences w/ this?

Run chemiclean to 72 hours. Most of the time you'll see significant improvement at 48 but some strands take an extra day.

Additionally it's really difficult to get chemiclean out with straight water changes. A better method is to take the plug out of your skimmer cup and let it run with a hose going directly to a bucket. Took eight gallons before my skimmer stopped going crazy and all the chemiclean was out of my ~150 gallon tank. Then all you have to do is replace what was skimmed out and you're good to go.

It's a good idea to leave it running the whole time. Helps to oxygenate the water. During treatment it should be spilling water right back into the tank though. When you're ready to pull the chemiclean out you can divert the skimmate into a bucket.

If you left it running and were removing the skimmate then you were also removing the chemiclean. The directions tell you not to run a skimmer during the process.

However, you can leave the skimmer running and just allow it to overflow back into the tank. This lets the skimmer help with oxygenation, which can be depleted during the chemiclean process, but obviously doesn’t remove the chemiclean because it’s just dumping everything back into the tank.

Oh, my mistake. It’s been a couple of years since I used it, but I thought I remembered the directions saying not to run a skimmer. Oh well, they say that the memory is the first thing to go
