greetings,
the directions for usage say "oxygen levels MUST be increased using heavy aeration or large air stone.".
I don't run a skimmer but I do run an upflow algae scrubber.
do I need to add an air stone?

How large a tank? I think the scubber should be enough.

I did add a couple airstones in my 125 gal tank just to be safe. Had years of coral growth and 20+ fish and did not want to risk it as it was pretty easy to do. I would do it just for the piece of mind as it will not hurt anything.

the scrubber is a SURF4X if you are familiar with those.

Keep an eye out and add another airstone. But i think you should be fine.
