Hi everyone. I’m new to the whole reefing thing. Recently added fish and coral to my IM 30g and was using the carbon and gfo from them. Corals seemed happy however algae was beginning to drive me insane. It’s brown and grows everywhere on everything. I’ve manually removed about 3 times including 1 time removing live rock from tank and scrubbing with a tooth brush. I also switched my filter media to chemipure blue which has seemed to stress out some of my corals. Should I remove chemipure and go back to the standard filter media or allow coral to adjust? if that’s even an option. Thanks

The brown is most likely diatoms. A natural part of the new tank phase. I doubt if chemipure blue is the source of stress but remove it if you think it is harmful

Any idea how to get rid of the diatoms? It’s the only reason I put in the chemipure

Chemipure is just fancy mix of carbon and gfo. I dont see how it would be responsible for stressing corals. If you have diatom issues its likely the tank was not allowed to mature long enough before adding corals and the instability is what the problem is.

Fish should gradually be added after a cycle, followed by coral several weeks (or even few months) later

Chemipure elite is carbon and GFO
BLUE is high grade carbon with traces

Please provide pic. I’m suspecting you may have Dino which is stringy snot looking with bubbles and will upset coral

This is all that remains atm. I’m sure it will return. My 1 hang up of it being Dino is that it never seems to recede or decrease when lights are of

If it doesn't go away when the lights are off then it definitely isn't diatoms. Are you still having this issue? Where are you getting your source water from?
