My wife really would like a bright blue fish for our 40g breeder and we know we don't want any Damsels but what about a Cherub Angel? We have a mixed reef tank with a few LPS (frogspawn, torch, acans etc.), some mushrooms but our most prized corals are our high-end zoas and palys so we wouldn't want to get anything that would be a potential threat to them especially. He also would have to get along with wrasse's as we currently have a Radiant and will be adding a Clown Fairy shortly. Any info/opinions (especially firsthand) would be appreciated!!!

I have one in my 180 mixed reef and he's fine with all my corals, clams and inverts. He's in there with a few large tangs, a radiant and flame wrasse, clowns, a bellus angel, and my eel. He's been harassing my clowns lately, but I think it's because he's picked a new home close to them. Occasionally, the bellus will give him a quick chase but nothing that isn't manageable. All my fish have been together in this tank from set up almost 2 years ago though

I have had C. argi and the better looking, IMO, C. acanthops/aurantonotus with zoas without issue -- However, I would never trust any dwarf angel (( currently have 6, including a coral beauty )) with any fleshy LPS.

I had 3 cherub angels (harem) in my my reef 45g at one point. I was pretty lucky and had no coral losses. That being said, I sold them all off because I was worried about it. You may get lucky and have one that doesn't nip your coral, but there is always the risk. Any given time they could change their mind and eat it up. They are beautiful, but constatanly worrying and checking to see if your expensive corals are still there every day just isn't worth it in my opinion.

I had one in my 29G reef for many years. Never had a problem with it, or any dwarf angel for that matter. Then again, I am not a clam person (the primary thing they pick at).

I have a cherub in my 90 and he is a little bugger, but still one of my favorite fish. While I have caught him nipping, it usually is when I decided to cut down on feeding or simply missed a day.

I had 2 Coral Beauties in my tank and they never nipped at anything but a rock.

PS: how do you guys keep your zoa/palys? mine all died from fungi i think it was, colonies after colonies would die one by one.

FWIW, I have a Yellowtail pygmy angel in my 180. I have never seen him touch a coral nor seen evidence of it. I also have a 7" maxima clam that he has never even looked at and an infestation of zoanthids. too busy chasing pods I guess. Ive had him about 18 months and the clam for 2
