How do you prefer to run your chiller, controlling temperature with chiller control and using external controller as redundancy or viceversa?

I'm not running a chiller at the moment. But when I did it was a 1 hp unit on a 435g system. I only used the chiller thermostat for control. It failed and let the chiller run over night. When I got up at 6am my tile floor had a big puddle of water due to condensation from the front glass on the tank and a 120g tank full of sps corals were all white skeletons by noon.

When I hook up my next chiller I'll have it wired through a Ranco controller as a secondary control.

How hard would it be to wire a chiller to this? I have a teco chiller as my only method of heating and cooling

No need to wire anything, in your case, use the Teco controller as the primary for cooling and heating and program the Ranco as the failsafe.

Mine has a built in high low range and always stays within it
